Zac Efron is on the mend following a minor health scare that required hospitalization. The 36-year-old actor took to Instagram Stories on Sunday, August 4, to reassure fans of his well-being. Sharing a photo of himself lifting weights, Zac wrote, “Happy and healthy,” alongside his workout snap and thanked fans for their support.
According to TMZ, the incident occurred over the weekend at an Ibiza villa, where Zac was reportedly involved in a “minor swimming incident.” A representative for Zac confirmed to the outlet that the actor was pulled out of the pool by two workers and subsequently taken to a hospital in Spain. He was released later the same day, and the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
This isn’t the first time Zac has faced health challenges. In 2013, he suffered a serious injury when he fell at home and shattered his jaw, leading to his mouth being wired shut. Following that accident, there were unfounded rumors about plastic surgery, which Zac addressed with humor during a 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight. He said, “I don’t really read the internet, so, I don’t really give a f**k. It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re good.”
In the same year, Zac spoke to Men’s Health about changes to his facial appearance, explaining that his masseter muscles had grown over time, which altered his facial look. He noted, “The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big,” and addressed the gossip by saying, “If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.”
Despite the recent health scare, Zac has continued to stay active and supportive of his interests. He has been notably enthusiastic about Team USA’s performance at the Olympics, including extending congratulations to gymnast Simone Biles. The gymnast revealed in 2016 that she had a crush on Zac, and he surprised her during a televised appearance, further highlighting his ongoing engagement with fans and sporting events. Zac’s recent update and his continued presence in the public eye demonstrate his resilience and commitment to maintaining a positive outlook amid personal challenges.
