Rapper Clifford Harris Jr., better known as T.I., found himself in an unexpected legal situation this past Sunday. T.I., who was arrested in Atlanta, was mistakenly identified as another man with the same name. The rapper, who was booked into the Clayton County Jail around 4:30 p.m., was swiftly released just two hours later. The arrest stemmed from a mix-up involving a fugitive from justice charge, which was intended for Clifford Harris from Maryland accused of violent offenses.
The confusion was clarified quickly, and T.I. was released before 6:30 p.m., according to court records reviewed by USA TODAY. His attorney, Steve Sadow, confirmed to TMZ that the arrest warrant was meant for a different individual with the same name, and not the rapper.
This case of mistaken identity arrives amidst ongoing legal issues for T.I. and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Harris. Earlier this year, the couple faced a new civil lawsuit filed by a Jane Doe in Los Angeles Superior Court. The lawsuit alleged that the woman, who was in her early 20s and serving in the U.S. Air Force at the time, was drugged and sexually assaulted by the couple in 2005. The woman claimed that after meeting T.I. and Tiny in a nightclub, she was given a spiked drink, taken to their hotel room, and sexually assaulted. She asserted that she did not consent to any of the acts and was incapacitated by the drugs.
In response to the allegations, T.I. and Tiny strongly denied the claims, labeling them as “fake” and accusing the lawsuit of being an extortion attempt. They have maintained their innocence, and the accusations echo a similar police investigation from 2021, where a military veteran also claimed to have been assaulted under similar circumstances.
The couple’s legal troubles have been compounded by a series of allegations from over a dozen women in 2021, alleging drugging, sex trafficking, and rape. To date, none of these accusers have disclosed their identities publicly. T.I.’s recent arrest, while quickly resolved, adds to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the rapper and his wife. The case underscores the challenges and complexities of legal battles, particularly when mistaken identity and serious accusations intersect.
