Gerald Takwara, the prominent Zimbabwean center-back, has signed with Al-Minna SC, a club in the Iraq Premier League. The move comes after Takwara’s contract with Saudi Pro League side Ohod Club expired at the end of the previous season, and the club opted not to renew his stay.
Al-Minna SC recently unveiled the 29-year-old defender. Takwara’s career has seen him make notable contributions both domestically and internationally. Before joining Al-Minna, he played for Ohod Club in Saudi Arabia. His previous stints include playing in South Africa with Ajax Cape Town and Venda FC, as well as in Zimbabwe with FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars.
Takwara’s versatility and solid defensive skills have been well-recognized throughout his career. In addition to his club successes, he has been a significant presence in the Zimbabwe national team, known as the Warriors. He was part of the squad that participated in the World Cup qualifiers held in June. During those matches, Takwara partnered with Teenage Hadebe in the game against Lesotho, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for Zimbabwe and later played alongside Munashe Gara’anga in the match against South Africa.
As Takwara begins his new chapter with Al-Minna SC, the move to the Iraq Premier League is expected to provide him with new challenges and opportunities. Fans and supporters of Takwara hope his experience and defensive prowess will contribute positively to his new club’s campaign in the league.
