Janet Jackson withdraws from DStv Delicious Festival following brother’s death

Janet Jackson

The DStv Delicious Festival is facing a significant setback as Janet Jackson has announced her withdrawal from the lineup due to the recent passing of her brother, Tito Jackson. Scheduled to headline the festival this coming weekend, Jackson’s management confirmed that she must prioritize family commitments during this difficult time. In their statement, Jackson’s team expressed, “Janet’s brother Tito passed away this past Sunday. For obvious reasons, Janet has to cancel her performance at the DStv Delicious Festival to be with her family.”

Ticket holders have been informed that exchanges can be made on the Ticketmaster website from 8 PM on September 17 until 11:59 PM on September 18, subject to availability. Those who hold Saturday tickets will remain valid, but many fans are seeking refunds, particularly those who purchased tickets specifically to see Jackson perform.

Responses on social media have reflected the disappointment of many attendees. One user, @Obriezy, expressed frustration, questioning whether refunds would be available for those who no longer wished to attend without Jackson. Another user, @OhMuthaMercury, highlighted travel concerns, particularly for those planning to return home on Sunday, urging the festival to consider refunds if no replacement act is scheduled.

While festival organizers have offered the option to exchange Saturday tickets for Sunday performances, this has not met the needs of all fans. Many have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to voice their emotional reactions. User @KimJ777 shared, “I’m actually crying. Of course, we feel for her and her family… But you should consider those of us who bought tickets specifically to see her. Do we have refunds as an option?”

Management has indicated plans to return next year and expressed gratitude for the support from South African fans during this challenging time for Janet Jackson. The festival continues to navigate the fallout from this unexpected development, with many attendees left feeling uncertain about their plans.
