Police have apprehended five women from Wedza following their involvement in a widely circulated video where they brutally assaulted another woman after stripping her naked. The disturbing footage shows the group of women mercilessly beating the victim with switches. Shockingly, some of the attackers were dressed in school uniforms.

The suspects now face charges of aggravated indecent assault. In a statement released on July 10, 2024, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest of Vimbai Mike (19), Rudo Manjere (17), Lily-Rose Munyoro (16), Lillian Chido Munyoro (17), and Sandra Vhumbunu (17) in connection with the incident. The assault took place on July 4, 2024, at Mupfuri Village, Wedza.

According to police investigations, the five women allegedly lured Mavis Mada (18) to Vimbai Mike’s residence under the pretense of giving her vegetable seedlings. Once at the house, they locked her in a hut, stripped her naked, and proceeded to assault her with switches. They also inserted three sticks into her private parts while recording the ordeal on video. The victim eventually lost consciousness, at which point the suspects poured water on her and released her around 3:00 PM.

The arrest of the suspects led to the recovery of a Vivo cellphone which was used to record the assault video. Vimbai Mike is detained in police custody while the other four suspects who are juveniles have been released in the custody of their parents and they will be taken to court for the due process of the law to take its course. The victim is alive and currently receiving medical treatment at Mount St Mary’s Hospital.
