In a notable gesture of appreciation, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation, Tino Machakaire, bestowed a generous gift of US$10,000 upon sungura legend Alick Macheso during the launch of his 13th album. The event at Alex Sports Club celebrated Macheso’s much-anticipated album titled **‘Kupa Kuturika’**.
The album launch was grand, drawing a large crowd to Alex Sports Club, where fans eagerly awaited the new tracks. The album features six songs: “Kuverengera,” “Undiregererewo,” “Zvichada Hama,” “Murangarire,” “Kunditaya,” and “Hunhu Hwakashata.” Macheso delivered an electrifying performance, showcasing his new material and captivating his audience with his signature style.
Minister Machakaire’s gift was a highlight of the evening. The Minister, who has been a long-time supporter of Macheso, took to the stage to present the monetary gift. He expressed his admiration for the artist, calling him his “best friend” and pledging continued support. “Makorokoto BaShero. May God Bless you. We love you. We wish you the best. Ndai Mwari akuyitira zvakanaka. We love you ma fans aBa Shero. May God bless you all. We love you, we are one family,” Minister Machakaire said during the presentation.
In response, Alick Macheso expressed his heartfelt gratitude, noting that Minister Machakaire had also promised him a truck. The gesture underscored the deep respect and camaraderie between the two.
This is not the first time Minister Machakaire has recognized Macheso’s contributions with a significant gesture. In 2022, the Minister bought Macheso’s 12th album, **‘Tinosvitswa Nashe’**, for US$10,000 during a special launch event at Rainbow Towers. At that time, Machakaire described his purchase as more than just a transaction, but a token of his appreciation for Macheso’s humility and respect. “I have known @alickmacheso3 for a very long time. In all my interactions with him, he is very humble and respectful. The CD that I purchased tonight goes beyond just paying for music but it is my token of appreciation to the Living Legend. May he live long!” Machakaire had stated.
Alick Macheso’s latest album launch not only showcased his enduring talent but also highlighted the strong support network he enjoys, both from his fans and influential figures in Zimbabwean society. As Macheso continues to influence the music scene with his celebrated style, gestures like those from Minister Machakaire further cement his legacy and the deep respect he commands.
