Zimbabweans have lost one of their few direct flight options to Cape Town as RwandAir announces the suspension of all flights on this route. This decision is a significant blow to travelers seeking direct connections between Harare and the South African city, especially given the already limited choices available.
Currently, the only remaining option for direct flights from Harare to Cape Town is Airlink, a South African regional airline. Airlink also connects Zimbabwe’s capital with other major South African cities, including Johannesburg and Durban, but with RwandAir’s exit, travelers may now face increased demand for these remaining services, potentially leading to higher fares.
While RwandAir has not provided specific reasons for the suspension, this decision reflects a broader trend among airlines worldwide, as many are reassessing their routes in light of ongoing economic and operational challenges. The loss of this route also represents a setback for regional connectivity, as direct flights between Harare and Cape Town have always been relatively scarce.
Travelers are now urged to explore alternative routes and book in advance, as the consolidation of flight options may impact availability and pricing in the coming months.
