40 passengers escape death as bus catches fire

In a stroke of luck early Tuesday morning, forty passengers miraculously emerged unscathed when a stationary Inter-Africa bus erupted into smoke along the Mutare-Masvingo road.

The harrowing incident unfolded around 4:45 AM near Jubert Crushers, precisely at the 11-kilometre mark, as confirmed by local authorities. The bus, en route to Mutare from Marange, suddenly began emitting smoke from the driver’s compartment, prompting fears of a potential fire.

Fortunately, prompt action by the driver and swift evacuation of passengers averted what could have been a catastrophic situation. Police responded swiftly to the scene, ensuring the safety of everyone on board before the smoke turned into flames.

Eyewitnesses recounted the tense moments when smoke billowed from the bus, causing initial panic among passengers. However, thanks to the quick and decisive response, disaster was narrowly avoided, leaving only the bus itself to bear the brunt of the fire.

Reflecting on the incident, passengers expressed gratitude for their escape and praised the driver’s calm handling of the situation. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the mechanical malfunction that led to the smoke and subsequent fire.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of travel and the importance of preparedness in such emergencies. As travelers along Zimbabwe’s roads continue their journeys, vigilance and quick thinking remain crucial in ensuring everyone’s safety.
