President Emmerson Mnangagwa is confident Zimbabwe will host a successful SADC Heads of State and Government summit in August this year.
He was speaking after inspecting construction works at the Presidential Villas for SADC heads of state and an aerial tour of road projects in Mt Hampden.
Before he assessed the work at the Villas, President Mnangagwa conducted an aerial tour of the roads leading to the parliament building which include Boulevard Road which stretches from Bindura Road to the New Parliament Building.
“I’m satisfied that they are going to complete the construction of villas which are meant to facilitate accommodation for heads of state, I’m told that by end of July. Early August everything all will be in place and I have no doubt that they will accomplish the task,” he said.
The President said his vision for the new city is coming to fruition.
He added, “I’m happy that my vision is actualising slowly, the Boulevard from Parliament to Mazowe Road is already working out. This will be one of the roads that will be a wonder. The design of the road has been explained to me and it is going to be a wonder. I’ve told them that I want Dubai here. My vision is to produce a new city that is better than Dubai.”
As enunciated by President Mnangagwa, all hands are on deck, with Zimbabwe on a pedestal to host a successful summit.
“This is why we are working 24 hours to make sure we host SADC here in an environment we’ve never seen before. I believe if what I have in mind is complete even after the summit, some will not go back,” said the President.
The SADC summit will be held in August, with Zimbabwe set to assume the chairmanship of the regional bloc.
