Mathews Rantsoma bids farewell to E.tv’s Scandal

The Safta-nominated actor, known for his portrayal of Nhlamulo Maseko since joining the soapie in 2021, decided to depart in pursuit of new opportunities. Reflecting on his time on the show, Mathews took to social media to express his gratitude and nostalgia.

“Words fail me. Emotions are overflowing. Memories will always be a part of me. Above all, the love for this craft runs deep and will endure,” he wrote.

“To everyone who supported the character from day one, and stood by through thick and thin, your gift means the world to me. Even during the character’s toughest moments, your support never wavered. I cherish you all deeply. Thank you for everything.”

Speaking previously to TshisaLIVE, Mathews discussed the impact of his on-screen persona on public perception and his personal life. “It’s created this idea that I’m a romantic, which isn’t entirely true. The character has somewhat overshadowed my real self, shaping perceptions about who I am,” he explained.

Regarding the challenges posed by intimate scenes on the show, Mathews highlighted the importance of clear communication, particularly with his long-time partner.

“It’s been tricky, reassuring her that it’s just acting and maintaining a professional boundary. Communication is key. We always discuss these scenes beforehand to ensure comfort and respect,” he shared. With a strong foundation in theatre, Mathews credited Scandal! for his growth as an actor.

“It’s been a fascinating journey. Intimate scenes are always demanding, requiring careful consideration and dialogue. It’s a part of the job that necessitates sensitivity and respect,” he added. Mathews’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter on Scandal!, leaving behind a legacy cherished by fans and colleagues alike.
