7 armed robbers arrested after exchanging fire with cops at tollgate

Seven armed robbers who allegedly stole about 400 kgs of pregnant carbons, cellphones and cash amounting to US$250 at Ansh Red mine in Shurugwi on Thursday, were arrested at Flamingo tollgate on Friday.

Delta Misheck (32), Khumbulani Mpofu (42), Promise Dube (22), Moyo Phakhamani (30), Canicious Sibanda (28), Khumalo Mlamuli (31) and Munetsi Takunda (29) are the seven are assisting police with investigations.

Sources close to investigations told a local newspaper that the Support unit details from Shurugwi worked on a tip-off to follow the vehicle which the seven were using.

Upon approaching the Flamingo tollgate the detectives also approached the getaway car which then attempted to flee but was blocked by other vehicles in the queue, firearms were at work and Misheck sustained a gunshot wound.

Misheck died upon admission at Shurugwi District hospital, Dube is admitted at the same hospital and investigations are still in progress under ZRP Shurugwi.
