Musician Ti Gonzi, whose real name is Tinashe Gonzara, is embroiled in a dispute with Prophet Walter Magaya, the founder of PHD Ministries after one of the prophet’s bodyguards allegedly sold him a car that has since been confiscated by the Criminal Investigations Department’s Vehicle Theft Squad (CID-VTS). The car, a Toyota MarkX, is believed to have either been stolen or smuggled, and Ti Gonzi is now seeking answers and justice after the vehicle was seized.
In an interview with socialite Tatelicious, Ti Gonzi shared the details of the incident, revealing how he came to purchase the car, only for it to later be flagged by the authorities. The musician explained that he had been experiencing problems with his old car, which led him to search for a replacement. His inquiry eventually led him to Magaya’s bodyguard, known only as Tapiwa, who allegedly facilitated the sale of the vehicle at Magaya’s hotel.
“I only make money off music and that’s my only business. I make money from royalties, YouTube, and live shows, so I was struggling with my car which had been giving me problems for a while, and that’s why I decided to buy a new car,” Ti Gonzi explained. He further detailed how he was referred to Tapiwa by someone in the community who claimed that Magaya’s bodyguard was selling a car in the Prospect area. After meeting Tapiwa at the hotel, Ti Gonzi said there were initial delays, but the transaction was eventually concluded through a third party.
The sale seemed straightforward at first, with the musician purchasing the Toyota MarkX. However, it wasn’t long before Ti Gonzi was approached by the CID’s Vehicle Theft Squad, who informed him that the car was not legally registered. He was soon informed that the vehicle was likely either stolen or smuggled. The VTS began investigating the origins of the car, leading to the eventual confiscation of the vehicle from the musician.
“Within a week after I had brought the car, I started getting nagged by guys that claimed they were from VTS who said that this car was not registered in law,” Ti Gonzi revealed. As the investigation unfolded, the musician attempted to reach out to Tapiwa, hoping for a resolution. Tapiwa allegedly referred him to a police officer from Chitungwiza who could help mediate the situation. However, the issue was not resolved, and Ti Gonzi demanded his money back from the bodyguard.
Things took a more serious turn when Ti Gonzi sought out Prophet Magaya himself, hoping to address the situation directly. Despite arranging several meetings with the prophet, Ti Gonzi said he faced continuous delays and evasions from Magaya’s camp. At one point, he waited for hours at the hotel but was ultimately told by Magaya’s assistants that he was too late to meet the prophet. He was given a small sum of US$30 and instructed to return the following day.
“When the time came for me to see Magaya, I was told to wait outside with my friends. When we finally got inside, his assistants told me I was late and couldn’t see him. They gave me US$30 and told me to come back the next day,” Ti Gonzi recalled. Unfortunately, when he returned the next day, he waited from 4 pm to 10 pm, but no one came to meet him.
Ti Gonzi’s frustration has been mounting as he seeks to resolve the issue and recover his money. The police had already warned him that the car could potentially lead to legal trouble, but despite numerous attempts to address the matter with Magaya, the musician has found himself stuck in a cycle of delays and unfulfilled promises.
The situation has raised questions about the transactions happening under Magaya’s leadership, particularly about the actions of his staff. While the musician has yet to receive an official statement from the prophet, Ti Gonzi continues to demand accountability and the return of his funds.
As the conflict between Ti Gonzi and Prophet Magaya continues to unfold, it remains unclear what the resolution will be. The musician’s efforts to seek justice and reclaim his money have put the spotlight on the handling of vehicle sales within Magaya’s inner circle, adding fuel to the controversy surrounding the issue. For now, Ti Gonzi’s fight is far from over, and he has made it clear that he will not rest until he gets what he believes he is owed.
