Singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri has announced the cancellation of her US tour dates, citing the prohibitive costs of touring as the primary reason. The “Never Need Me” singer, who released her debut album *What A Devastating Turn of Events* earlier this year, was slated to support Remi Wolf and perform at various festivals across North America.
In a heartfelt statement shared on X and Instagram, Chinouriri explained that the “financial strain of touring has become too much.” She revealed that she had invested all her savings and earnings into her shows, styling, and band to make the tour possible. Despite her best efforts to secure additional funding, she found it impossible to cover the escalating expenses.
“This is the tough reality of the music industry,” Chinouriri wrote. “I adore Remi and her fanbase and have explored every possible option to make this work.”
The rising costs of obtaining US visas for performers have been a significant challenge. Since April, the cost of visas has more than doubled, with O or P visas now costing upwards of $1,000 compared to the previous $460. Additional fees for legal costs and expedited processing can push the total expense to over $2,800. The US embassy has attributed these increases to rising operational costs and a backlog in processing applications, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Remi Wolf confirmed on social media that Rachel Chinouriri’s withdrawal was due to “unforeseen circumstances” and announced that Slimdan will replace her as the supporting act. Remi expressed understanding and support for Chinouriri’s situation and reiterated her excitement for the upcoming tour.
Chinouriri, who was nominated for the BBC’s Sound of 2023 and has performed at prominent events like Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Glastonbury, was set to support Remi Wolf on ten shows, starting in New York and concluding in California. Despite the setback, she has assured her US fans that she will return as soon as possible.
Chinouriri will continue her activities in the UK, where she is scheduled to perform at the Reading and Leeds festivals this weekend and embark on a UK tour later this year.
