Daylight robbery at EcoBank in Bulawayo

In a shocking daylight robbery, six masked men armed with pistols stormed the EcoBank branch at the Parkade Centre in Bulawayo, making off with several trunks reportedly filled with cash. The brazen heist occurred around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, in full view of stunned bystanders.

The robbers specifically targeted a Safeguard security truck as its personnel were attempting to load the trunks into the bank. Eyewitness accounts reveal that the assailants arrived in a Ford Ranger pickup truck and sprang into action with alarming speed.

According to one shaken witness, “As the Safeguard workers were trying to get safes from the bank, a Ford Ranger open truck appeared with six men wearing face masks. Suddenly, they fired a shot into the air, and the Safeguard workers immediately dropped to the ground. The robbers then dragged the safes into their vehicle and sped off down George Silundika Street.”

The audacity of the crime has raised serious concerns about the security of cash-in-transit services in the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident, but the boldness of the criminals has left the city on high alert. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and while the exact amount of cash stolen remains unclear, police are optimistic that recently installed CCTV cameras in Bulawayo’s city center may have captured critical details of the heist. As the investigation unfolds, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help ensure the safety of residents and businesses alike.
