Two suspended cricket players to appear before disciplinary hearing over drug use

Zimbabwe Cricket has taken action by suspending two players from all cricket activities. Blessed Muzite and Brighton Chipungu, who represent Scorpions and Takashinga Patriots 2 respectively, have been barred following a positive marijuana test conducted during an internal doping assessment.

Both players are scheduled to face a disciplinary hearing shortly. This incident marks the second instance this year where Zimbabwe Cricket has enforced such measures; previously, Brandon Mavuta and Wesley Madhevere received a four-month ban in February for a similar offense.

The prevalence of doping among Zimbabwean athletes continues to pose challenges. Currently, the government, through the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, is in the process of drafting an Integrity Bill aimed at addressing drug issues in sports.
