ZANU PF Boosts Efficiency With Vehicle Allocation to Council of Elders

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has reinforced ZANU PF’s organisational strength by handing over a fleet of 10 vehicles to members of the party’s Council of Elders, while the Information and Publicity Department received modern digital equipment to enhance its national communication strategy. The dual investment marks a significant step in the ruling party’s broader effort to modernise its structures and improve operational effectiveness ahead of the implementation of the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).

The handover ceremony was held on Friday at State House in Harare, where senior members of the ruling party gathered to witness what officials described as a renewed commitment to ensuring that veteran leaders and key administrative departments are adequately equipped to carry out their responsibilities. The event forms part of ZANU PF’s internal strengthening programme, which emphasises improved mobility, communication, and coordination in communities countrywide.

Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, Chairperson of the Council of Elders, praised President Mnangagwa for recognising the ongoing role played by senior party figures. He said the gesture reflected not only respect for the party’s long-serving leadership but also the President’s continuing commitment to ensuring that development reaches every part of Zimbabwe.

“We have seen the development that you are rolling out in all parts of the country,” Dr Sekeramayi said. “We have witnessed road infrastructure being opened, health centres constructed, and new schools implemented. These efforts are visible, and today’s gesture shows that you still value those who have walked the journey with you.”

His remarks were echoed by several members of the Council of Elders, who described the vehicles as essential tools that would enable them to fulfil their advisory and community engagement roles more effectively. Many noted that their duties often require travelling to remote areas, mediating in community issues, and participating in party activities that support grassroots structures.

Former Senate President Cde Edna Madzongwe expressed heartfelt gratitude, emphasising that senior members sometimes worry about being overlooked after years of service. She said the President’s gesture reaffirmed his commitment to inclusivity.

“As elders, one would think we have been forgotten,” Madzongwe said. “But President Mnangagwa continues to remember the people he worked with. We are very much grateful.”

Cde Idah Mashonganyika also welcomed the development, saying the vehicles would strengthen the Council’s ability to mobilise, guide, and support communities in various districts. She said the Council’s work remains central to preserving institutional memory within the party.

Another member, Cde Gibson Maisa, commended the President for consistently promoting the “leaving no one and no place behind” principle, a mantra that has become a defining theme of the Second Republic. He said the support shown through the handover aligns with the President’s broader vision for inclusive national development.

In addition to the vehicle donation, the ZANU PF Information and Publicity Department received an assortment of digital tools, including iPads, laptops, mobile phones, and other modern communication devices. The department said the equipment would enable it to enhance its national outreach, streamline communication, and increase digital presence across multiple platforms.

ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, said the department was pleased to receive tools that would help modernise information sharing within the party. He noted that the timing aligns with the recent launch of the National Development Strategy 2.

“We are glad we have received a bevy of tools of trade to ensure that we contribute immensely to the development of Zimbabwe,” Mutsvangwa said. “This also comes at a time when we have just launched NDS2, which aligns with the country’s development mantra. We now have the capacity to communicate effectively, respond quickly, and contribute to national development.”

The Council of Elders, chaired by Dr Sekeramayi, consists of prominent long-serving party leaders who continue to provide guidance and strategic advice to the party’s top leadership. Members include Cde Edna Madzongwe, Cde David Parirenyatwa, Cde Josiah Hungwe, Cde Idah Mashonganyika, Cde Maboyi Ncube, Cde Maina Mandava, Cde Angeline Masuku, Cde Gibson Maisa, and Cde Enock Sibanda.

Friday’s ceremony signals the ruling party’s ongoing effort to strengthen internal structures, improve governance frameworks, and enhance the ability of its senior leaders and information units to contribute more effectively to national priorities. As NDS2 comes into effect next year, officials say the measures are part of preparing the party for a more digitally driven and community-centred approach to governance and development.
