Another Chimbetu family feud brewing?

Another Chimbetu family feud brewing? Tryson’s new album was released soon after Suluman launched his album titled “Entanglement” and Allan’s offering, “Urgent Matter” at the end of 2020. Tryson Chimbetu says the title of his latest album, “Chii Chakadaro”, is not an attack on fellow Dendera musicians Suluman and Allan’s latest offerings.

There has been speculation in music circles that Tryson was dissing his bother and uncle, Suluman and Allan respectively, but he has quickly dismissed the claims. Speaking to the Daily News, Sekuru Dhimba, as Tryson is known by his fans, said in using street lingo, his focus was on making Dendera music appealing to the younger generation. He said:

My focus is to take Dendera music to the next generation and doing so means being able to engage with the people in that generation by using the language they understand. Chii Chakadaro is a phrase in street lingo which the youth understand. I’m the second generation of Dendera and for it to get to the third generation, it has to relate with the people.

On the album, Sekuru Dhimba has engaged other singers such as gospel musician Daniel Mhere, rapper Ti Gonzi and Uncle Sam. On the song “Zimbabwe”, Tryson worked with the rising Mhondoro Mbira outfit Madzinza Embira. He explained:

The idea is to broaden the audience and break new ground. As I said, the idea is to take Dendera to the next generation and introduce something that can appeal to many. Both Tryson and Sulumani are sons of the founder of Dendera music Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu, while Allan is the late Simon’s brother.
